Values & Selection Criteria

The goal of my angel activities is to support young, ambitious people who are eager to create their own companies and to make their dreams real, regardless of where they come from. I measure my success by being able to help passionate entrepreneurs realize their vision.

I invest in people. As an angel investor I have the freedom to be loyal to individuals, the founders of companies, rather than to organizations. My primary interest is not in maximizing a return on every single investment but in working with founders and helping them develop themselves and their ideas. I expect founders of startups to share the same values as mine:

  • Loyalty to individuals, not to organizations
  • Intellectual honesty with no tolerance for bullshit
  • Commitment to continued personal growth for founders as well as for me

Selection Criteria

I invest in very diverse types of startups. They range from companies that solve challenges of personal aviation to social enterprises that improve the quality of lives in African villages. Yet they have a number of things in common. Their founders are people who are passionate about and fully dedicated to their ideas and want to make an impact on the world. These people have a strong work ethic, a vision of their startups in a global society, and are interested in having me actively involved in helping them build their companies.

The following criteria are essential to me when I choose to invest:

  • Passionate founders with a firm belief in their vision
  • Founders with a strong sense of teamwork and a desire to learn from others
  • A significant likelihood that I will have substantial advisory impact during the course of the investment
  • A clear, practical path to a profitable venture
  • An Early Global aspect to the venture, defined as a desire to include team members, partners, or customers from multiple cultures in the startup phase
